Jan the Style Man (from PezCycling)

Even if its not quite so hard to keep up with Jan Ullrich’s TT speed these days, he’s certainly making up for it on the fashion front. In a Madonnaesque display of style switching, Ullrich has lost his long locks which he carefully cultivated over his winter and extended training period. Also gone is the earring.

Rumours that Jan’s long-time coach Rudy Pevenage had an influence are as of yet unconfirmed. However Parisian fashion writer Mathild le Grand-Bouche commented that “moi, I fink zat zis new style is, how do you say... tres chic and zat earring wiv zat long air was so 80’s rocker. All ‘ee needed was a faded Metallica t-shirt, mai non!”

Now, what would cycling be without OBJ?

You guys are soooooo defensive about Jan ... :)
He's so much fun to poke fun at!

I give respect where due.

The man is the second most powerful cyclist in the world, possibly now the most. He has taken so many shots lurking in the shadows of Lance that it soon becomes easy to rag on him. I have no personal affinity for the man. I can only speculate "what if" if he had the discipline of Lance. But he didn't and he has to live with that.

That leaves me to admire what a lowly CAT 5 can: A world class cycling superstar. I still contend he will rock the Tour.

I've always liked Jan, but LA showed us clearly that he'll only win a Tour by TT dominance because while he has the talent to win, he doesn't have the fight to beat his opponents into submission on the climbs … and maybe he should shave his head now to work toward getting another kilo off :-)
