Like a lot of people, Discovery Channel's Tom Danielson didn't know quite what to think of yesterday's stage setting in Seraing. The industrial backdrop would have been perfect for a Mad Max movie, but seemed an odd choice to start a Grand Tour. "I think every race I do over here is strange," said Danielson. "It's funny. When the Euros come to America you can see that they are completely out of their element. Here it's the same for me."
The guy at the right? He appears in these blogs as "the harbinger of doom," as in the fat lady sings.

I know its a matter of opinion and what each of us likes, but I still say cyclingnews.com has the best live coverage. It doesn't have all the pomp and circumstance that velonews' new live coverage screen has, but its solid and I feel more up to date. One example...it took velonews a whole two minutes after the fact to report that Petacchi had crashed today.

Danilo Di Luca has a mechanical, we're told from radio corsa. Still waiting for confirmation... And Petacchi crashed! He's back on his feet, but looking like he's hurting a bit. He's on the bike now, four teammates are with him. A Liquigas rider was also involved. They're riding off again.

There were a number of riders who crashed on wet roads. He slipped on a white line as the peloton reached the base of the descent. With 43km remaining, he's up and chasing, but he didn't look happy.
Same thing goes for the finishes and a preliminary top 5. Again, it's all a matter of what each of us likes, but just wanted to throw that out there.
I swing back and forth between the sites, to be honest.
