Always Sunny in California - 2009 Amgen Tour California, Prologue

The Amgen Tour of California kicks-off today with a 3.9 km/2.4 mile Prologue through the downtown streets of Sacramento.

Sacramento, the capital of the Golden State, “is a unique mélange of old and new with vestiges from the city’s Gold Rush era juxtaposing the thriving metropolitan center that offers more than 150 restaurants, nightclubs and other engaging amenities. Cyclists will enjoy pedaling the 32 scenic miles of the American River bike trail. With downtown Sacramento serving as the hub of Northern California, the region is home to over 200 wineries, gorgeous golf courses, more than 25 mind-stimulating museums, and professional sports teams including the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, the WNBA’s Sacramento Monarchs and the back-to-back Pacific Coast League champion Sacramento Rivercats. The city is within short driving distances from Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley and San Francisco.”

The first rider should leave the starting gate at around 1:30pm Pacific Standard time.

With two hours to go before the start, the rainy weather that has afflicted the region this past week is being held in check, and the sun has actually managed to work its way through the predominant cloud cover. The roads are dry and the temperature is on the underside of 50 degrees Fahrenheit, with a southerly wind at 13 mph.

As Michael Buffer might say…Let’s Get Ready To…[you really didn’t think I was going to say it and risk a royalty payment, did ya!]
