  • The total prize money for the 13-plus professional races has been increased from $200,000 to $225,000, making it the largest prize purse for a men's professional cycling event in the world. Total prize purse for three-stage professional men's competition -- Tour of Elk Grove's most prestigious event -- has been increased from $152,500 in 2007 to $170,000 in 2008. (The overall winner of this competition will receive $28,000.)
  • The first stage of the men's three-stage pro race, a 4.5-mile Time Trial, will kick off the weekend on Friday early evening.
  • A new 150K road race will be added on Saturday, going through the towns of Elk Grove Village and neighboring Schaumburg. Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson states, "We are excited to be a part of this world-class event and to have an opportunity to showcase our community."
  • Final Criterium Stage Sunday of 110 Kilometers
  • The Category 1& 2 men's race will be expanded from one to two stages. Total prize money for this race will be $35,000.
  • On the community and spectator front, in 2008 there will be two nights (Friday and Saturday) of live concerts and fireworks and a new weekend-long "kids' fest" with activities and entertainment will make its debut. Also: new spectator bleachers will be installed near the start/finish line, there will be an enhanced concession/retail area, and the Mayor's Challenge community race will be expanded from one to two stages.
