On Cue

After the prologue yesterday, John Trevorrow (Cyclingnews) sat down with Robbie McEwen (Predictor-Lotto) and elicited the following reaction.

"It all went pretty much to plan," explained the 11-time Tour stage winner. "I got [out] early and did about five laps on the course and got comfortable with it. I then rode and kept it at a threshold and made sure there is plenty in the tank for tomorrow."

"I'm pretty happy with my ride but it really all starts tomorrow for me," he continued post-prologue ride. "There are a few young guys who will definitely be trying to serve it up, as I did a few years ago, but it will all be decided in that final few hundred metres."

After today's Stage 1 of the Grand Boucle, the list of suplerlatives used to describe McEwen just went up by one, you can now add prophetic.

Robbie McEwen had all the gas he needed as he won today's stage in the last 150 meters, shooting past Thor Hushovd (Credit Agricole) and Tom Boonen (Quickstep - Innergetic).

The Aussie and now 12-time Tour stage winner (tying Erik Zabel's mark for those still competing) has surely set himself up for tomorrow, with a chance not only to win in his adopted home of Gent but also possibly wear yellow.
