Jan, Jan, Jan

Jan Ullrich, MY PICK, Granny, for the Tour de France (start up the bandwagon!) won the 2006 Tour of Switzerland Sunday, taking the 30.7-kilometer time trial to win the final stage of the nine-day race.
How many time trials are there in the Tour de France?
Twelve?
Doing what he does best (photo by AFP) -- time trials -- Ullrich trailed Koldo Gil (Saunier Duval) and Jorg Jaksche (Gerolsteiner) at the start of the TT final stage (which is a great way to end a stage race rather than those silly celebration stages).
Good thing they don't have Tim Horton's donuts in Switzerland, eh?

Jonathan Vaughters said it best when he complained that he did not possess the luxury of racing only once prior to the Tour and still "rolling" onto the podium in July.

We've said it a million times, if Jan had half LA's agression, who knows what the last 7 years would have been? It's Jan's time.

Despite the constant needling and unrelenting heckling from the press (03 included) the man is sub human and will be very hard to beat this year. Basso stands the best chance but will struggle to match him man for man in the ITT's.

I think it comes down to the teams and team strategy, and in those regards, Basso has the advantage. But maybe T-Mobile will support their man better this time around.
