Trixi, A Speed Racer - 20th Giro Donne Stage 8
Trixi Worrack (Equipe Nürnberger Versicherung) soloed to victory on the eighth stage of the 2009 Giro Donne from San Marco dei Cavoti to Pesco Sannita.
The highly motivated German would set out on her solo sojourn right after the start of today's stage in San Marco dei Cavoti. A group of four, including Shelley Olds (USA), Svetlana Bubnenkova (Fenixs), Tatiana Guderzo (Michela Fanin Record Rox), and Loes Gunnewijk (Flexpoint), eventually set out in pursuit of Worrack. But by that time, Worrack had already built up a substantial lead. She would cross the line 1 minute and 35 seconds ahead of the quartet.
PROMAN Hit Squad's Shelley Olds, riding for the US National Team, took second ahead of Bubnenkova.
Claudia Hausler (Cervelo Test Team) held on to the maglia rosa and inched closer to the overall title. Her compatriot, Judith Arndt (Team Columbia - HTC), however, wasn't as fortunate. Arndt was forced to withdraw today after a crash. She suffered a severe contusion to the right shoulder, elbow and right side, and was transported to the hospital for radiographs.
