Frederiek Nolf (Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator) passed away in his sleep sometime last evening/early this morning while participating in the Tour of Qatar.
Though the 21 year-old Belgian's career barely registered as a blip on the sport's radar, his death resonates with all of those who consider themselves a part of the microcosmic world that is cycling.
The statement released by his team truly reflects all of our sentiments:
“Team management, staff, cycling supporters and fans are commiserating with this heavy loss; our thoughts are with Frederiek’s family, his girlfriend and his mates.”
