On Tap...

Wow! Can you believe it, the final race on the NRC calendar is this weekend, the Tour de Leelanau in Leland, MI. Where the h--- is that? Well as we Midwesterners are so apt to point out, it would be where your pinky nail is. Huh?

Not taking into account the UP (Upper Peninsula) of the state, Michigan looks like the back of your left hand with you fingers together. So Leland is on your pinky nail just west of Traverse City, MI on the Western side of the state.

The race is in its 3rd Edition and has grown from one person's concept to an international event. Priority Health (based out of Grand Rapids, MI) is the headlining sponsor so expect Team Priority Health to be out in full force this weekend.

Below are other races in select geographic areas. For results/photos of most of the races listed, click through to Truesport.com.

Big Boy Circuit
Not to suggest that our Continental Professionals can't hang, but there's a reason we're categorized as racers.

Across the pond, the Vuelta is still going on. As it prepares to enter its final week, with the finale into Madrid, Denis Menchov leads the overall. An overall victory would add to his legitmacy as a Grand Tour champion; his previous Vuelta crown awarded to him as a result of Roberto Heras' EPO use in the penultimate ITT. [Yes, another doping reference]. Afterall, every athlete when given a choice would want to win on the field or road than through some official ruling.

Overall After Stage 12
1 Denis Menchov (Rus) Rabobank 48.08.26
2 Vladimir Efimkin (Rus) Caisse d'Epargne 2.01
3 Cadel Evans (Aus) Predictor - Lotto 2.27
4 Carlos Sastre (Spa) Team CSC 3.02
5 Ezequiel Mosquera Miguez (Spa) Karpin Galicia 4.35
6 Samuel Sánchez (Spa) Euskaltel - Euskadi 4.42
7 Vladimir Karpets (Rus) Caisse d'Epargne 5.49
8 Manuel Beltrán (Spa) Liquigas 5.56
9 Stijn Devolder (Bel) Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team 6.28
10 Carlos Barredo (Spa) Quickstep - Innergetic 6.39

Tour de Pologne
Registered as a Pro Tour race, the Tour of Poland has been running simultaneously with the second week of the Vuelta a Espana.

After 5 stages the overall looks to be up in the air as the top 102 riders are within 26 seconds of the lead. Today's Stage 6 was won by Pippo Pozzato (Liquigas).

MO Better Blue
Conversely, the Inaugural Tour of Missouri was, for all intents and purposes, secured yesterday with a respectable 6th place by George Hincapie (Discovery Channel) in the ITT.

Could you think of better way to send off the big Blue Train of Discovery (formerly US Postal)?
