For my former team, xXx Racing - Athletico, based out of Chicago, IL this racing season has been a roller coaster ride of extreme peaks and valleys.
Unfortunately the recent valleys have followed each other sequentially without any real peak to provide some levity. On Tuesday, September 11th, the news came down from Matteson that teammate Pieter Ombregt suffered life-ending injuries as a result of a crash.
From Luke Seemann's Chicago Bike Racing (CBR), "Despite immediate first aid and more than two hours of surgery, Pieter passed away later in the evening at St. James Hospital in Olympia Fields."
It is the second tragic event for the team, as Beth Kobeszka, was killed earlier this summer during Proctor, in Brimfield, IL.
Our heartfelt condolences to Pieter's biologic and cycling families.
There will be a viewing this Sunday, Sept. 16, at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western, Chicago, beginning at 11:30 a.m. A prayer service will follow at 1:30 p.m.
For more information go to the CBR or the xXx Racing - Athletico websites.
