Leonardo Bertagnolli (Liquigas) claimed a small piece of Spain for Italy today by conquering the Clasica San Sebastian. The 29 year old from Trento won a two-up sprint over Spain's Juan Manuel Garate (Quick Step - Innergetic). Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) led the chase group home to claim third.
The victory continued a marvelous streak this year for the Italian team, with Pippo Pozzatto claiming Het Volk and Stage 5 of the Tour de France, and with Danilo DiLuca taking the overall of the Giro d'Italia. The latter remained on top of the UCI Pro Tour standings.
