His pre-prologue statements weren't quite as dramatic as teammate, Dave Zabriskie's before he won the Tour prologue in 2005, when asked to predict the top three finishers, Zabriskie was quoted as saying, "Me, me, and me," but Fabian Cancellara (CSC) nonetheless sounded as confident in his interview with Cyclingnews' Shane Stokes.
"I can win," he declared. "On paper it is possible that I can really win."
And like his teammate before him (who set the record for the fastest time trial in Tour history averaging 54.676 kph!!), Cancellara went out in today's prologue and crushed the competition with an average speed of 53.7 kilometres per hour. He beat out second and third place finishers, Andreas Kloden (Astana) and George Hincapie (Discovery Channel) by 13 and 23 seconds, respectively. (Photo: AFP)
