For the 30 year old Mayo, the Stage 19 win was a small measure of redemption for a career that had, for all intensive purposes, spiraled downward since the 2004 Tour de France. The Basque rider who once openly held the attention of Lance Armstrong because of his climbing prowess, has in recent years faced a series of physical ailments and the wrong side of the expectation of stardom."This win means something special to me, because it's the first one with this jersey and because it was in a race like this. It gives me a lot of pleasure and it's a big moral boost for the future," Mayo remarked after the win.
